They landed safely in Addis, Ethiopia and are headed to a place to stay near the village of Guncheri. Pray that Roger and Mimi's luggage makes it to them where they are staying. It carries many supplies etc. for the transition center and for the children there.
It's a long and bumpy trek from the big city of Addis to the rural area of Guncheri. They will pass through many small cities and villages and then some beautiful open scenery to get there. Please pray how you feel led to pray.
This was a quiet and reflective ride for Mimi and I when we made it the first time almost 2 years ago. This was the time when God was pouring His perspective into our hearts and opening our eyes to "new things": new people, new culture, new life, new love, as we passed so many people living their everyday life; men and women doing their everyday work and children walking from school... so very different and yet the same in that they are all seeking "something"...
Exodus 33...
14 The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
15 Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"
17 And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."
18 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory."
19 And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence.
They may not have phone service there so it may be Sunday night late or Monday morning before we hear from them. Some of the things they will be doing in the village are:
Meeting with the mayor of Guncheri and letting him know we will be able to help them make improvements to
the soccer field and to help fund classes for human rights for women in Guncheri (a pretty amazing step in
this village community)
Meeting people, school children and talking with them and loving them.
Checking out the water stations and bathrooms that many of you have helped fund.
Looking at the very small and run down school building that may be a future project possibility...
Worship on Sunday morning in the village with a group of Christians.
